What to Expect
The session is relaxed and fun. Whit is there to document your family just being a family. She strives to capture the special relationships between you and your family members.
Having an activity that all family members can participate in can be helpful and provide for some fun, sweet moments, particularly if there are children. Preparing for a BBQ, playing a game, drawing a masterpiece, building a snowman, or raking huge piles of leaves to jump in; think of a fun seasonal activity to keep everyone involved.
While most of the session will be documentary, candid moments, Whit will also take formal, posed photos of the different groupings of family members. They are often taken at the start of the session, so everyone can relax and have fun for the rest of the time.
If you choose to pick a second location, make sure it is nearby or a quick drive, so time can be maximized for photos.
Don’t overthink the outfits. Don’t match or wear the same clothes. Whit always tell folks to wear what they are comfortable in or else their discomfort will show in photos. Pick something that makes you feel confident and beautiful, and keeps the kids happy.
Timing of the session will be confirmed between you and Whit. Usually in the afternoon a couple hours before sunset allows for some nice light. However, seasonally that may vary. Whit also recommends making sure it is a good time for the kiddos. If earlier in the day after lunch or before a nap is better, let Whit know. While her longer Day-in-the-Life Family Sessions strive to document all moods, for a shorter session like this, Whit recommends keeping the little ones in good spirits!
